It took Milena some time to understand the appearance of the spots on her body, which began to appear when she was 27 years old. She was on vacation in Natal, when she saw a spot on her leg. She went to a dermatologist, who immediately detected it: it was Vitiligo. She sought all kinds of treatment, but the spots kept appearing in other places. It was in therapy that she sought the reasons for the onset of the autoimmune disease. "I needed to dig deep into my past."

In 2014, she separated from her husband, the father of her child, and the condition broke out. "It was scandalous." 

In everyday life, she says she doesn't feel so much prejudice, but she notices the curiosity of the people she deals with at work. "That doesn't hurt me because I've worked on this issue a lot. Vitiligo makes no difference to my ability to be human."

Her concern for other people with Vitiligo led her to create, in 2019, the project 'Questão de Pele', to inform and welcome those who have the disease. 

"I'm not going to say that I am 100% ok with vitiligo, but I chose to be the protagonist. I became much more special, after all, no one has skin like mine."

Milena demorou para entender o surgimento das manchas em seu corpo, que começaram a aparecer em 2007, quando ela tinha 27 anos. Estava em férias em Natal, quando viu uma mancha na perna.

Foi ao dermatologista, que logo detectou: era vitiligo. Ela procurou todo tipo de tratamento, mas as manchas seguiam aparecendo em outros locais. Foi na terapia que buscou os motivos para o aparecimento da doença autoimune. "Precisei ir fundo no meu passado."

Em 2014, ela se separou do marido, pai de seu filho, e a condição estourou. "Aí foi um escândalo.”

No dia a dia, em geral, ela não sente tanto preconceito, mas percebe a curiosidade das pessoas com quem lida no trabalho. "Isso não me faz mal porque já trabalhei muito (essa questão). O vitiligo não faz nenhuma diferença na minha capacidade de ser humana."

A preocupação dela com outras pessoas com vitiligo a levou a criar, em 2019, o projeto 'Questão de Pele', para informar e acolher quem tem a doença.

"Não vou dizer que estou 100% ok com o vitiligo, mas escolhi ser protagonista. Eu me tornei muito mais especial, afinal ninguém tem a pele igual a minha."
